Mcculloch vs. maryland:
In 1819 the United States had a federal bank called was the Bank of the United States. The state of Maryland voted to tax all state bank businesses and not state banks. Which meant that there would be a tax on the people of Maryland who did business with banks in other states. The federal bank was also taxed. Andrew McCulloch who worked in the Baltimore branch of the federal bank refused to pay the tax. He was then sued and the Supreme Court was involved. Once the case was taken into effect Chief Justice John Marshall wrote that the states did not have the power to tax the federal government. He also wrote that states should not have that power over the federal government.
